A slipcover is a protective cover, which may be slipped on or off a piece of furniture. Slipcovers are usually made of cloths and can be remover any time for cleaning, moving, or changing seasons. In layman terms it can be stated as "clothing for the furniture".

Slipcovers vs. Re-upholstery

Replacing the cover of the furniture is re-upholstery where as slipcover is a fabric that covers existing upholstery. Slipcovers can be easily used or removed where as upholstery cannot.

Using a basic slipcover

Basic Slipcover is a very easy to use slipcover. Just throw a large piece of a fabric over the required furniture, pull it in the sides with the help of safety pins, and you are done. Cloth sheets or blankets work well for this. They come in a range of sizes, from an armchair to a big sofa. Even you can get different fabrics and sew them together to make a larger piece.

Of course, these types of cover do not give a person a very fitted look. Also keeping them neat and in place could become a fulltime job if there are small kid or pets around you. But if in case one has a very tight budget and needs to cover the furniture, this seams to be the best option. Comparing to the custom made items, basic slipcovers and less expensive, where the actual price just depends on size of the furniture and the fabric you select.

If you decide to go for as slipcover then what come next to your mind is color and fabric. For deciding the color one should consider the surrounding environment, children or pet around you and so on. Don't be afraid of going for white slipovers as they can be beached. Also you should be aware of various fabrics that make good slipovers that is the material should be stiff, it should be able to drape over the curves and so on. Also the fabric should not be to loose and should be tight weave.

So with a slipcover you can always change the look of your furniture whenever you change your mind and that to at a very affordable cost.
