Lawn mowers
A lawn mower is one of the most important and significant tools that are employed in your garden. This is a tool that is used to trim and cut grass of uneven length to an even and uniform length. This tool is en essential component of the set of tools of any well-equipped handyman.
Varieties and uses of lawn mowers
There are two basic variations in the cutting mechanisms of the lawn mowers that are available in the market. The first one is the reel or cylinder mower that works on the principle of spiral blades that are designed to rotate on a horizontal axis. The grass is sliced and chopped away by one clean swipe of these sharp blades. The other varieties of lawn mowers are the rotary mowers and work on a slightly different principle. These have horizontal blades on a vertical driveshaft. The difference between the two contrast sharply. Whereas the cylinder mower cleanly swipes the grass and cuts it off, the rotary mowers tear through the grass and thus leave behind jagged edges of the grass that can at times leave the lawn with an unshaved and unfinished look. The heights on these lawn mowers are adjustable for the sake of the convenience of the users. Also this will allow you to select the height and fineness at which you would like the grass to be cut.
In the case of newer or more advanced lawn mowers, this mechanism is electronically controlled. Whereas in the case of older and cheaper variations in the lawn mower, this mechanism has to be manually adjusted. Besides these hand held mowers there are still other variations. These include riding mowers, which can be used to mow large lawns. These expensive machines resemble a mini tractor and can be operated much like a regular lawn mower. Cutting edge technology now empowers these lawn mowers to be even robotically controlled, as is the case in Japan and some other developed countries.
Thus a lawn mower has varied functions and serves a variety of purposes around the home.
