Spur point bits

Thinking about any building project without the use of spur point bit drills is almost impossible. This is a highly important tool to have around, especially when using wood.

Meaning and use:

Drill bits are tools used for cutting cylindrical holes. These bits are held in a drill that rotates and provides axial force to create holes. There are many different types of drill bits used for drilling different materials. One of the most popular bit is the spur point bit. The other name of spur point bit is the 'wood' or 'dowel; bit. This name is highly apt as the spur point bit is commonly used for cutting timber and dowels. They therefore should only be used for drilling wood or some form of plastic. The spur point has a central point and has two raised spurs that are very useful in keeping the drilling straight. This results in drilling clean-sided holes in the timber. The sides of the holes are normally ranging from 3 to 10 mm. This type of drill therefore provides optimized wood drilling. The center of this type of drill has a sharp point and four sharp corners to cut the wood. This point pushes into the wood to keep the drill straight. The best advantage of spur point bits is that it can also be used safely for drilling holes in soft plastic.

Buying and caring:

Spur point bits can be purchased from any commercial outlets. They can be purchased directly from the companies themselves. It is very necessary that you purchase quality product right in the beginning to avoid management issues later on. While purchasing, the tool should be thoroughly checked for any signs of damage. It should feel comfortable to your hands and not unusually heavy. There should be no exposed sharp points that can cut your hand. For management, the Spur bit points need to be sharpened with hands. Grindstone can be used for sharpening fine edges. They should be properly cleaned after every use. They should not be exposed to any harsh climate when not in use. The best way is to buy a case to keep your drilling bit safe and organized.

These simple guidelines can be effective for maintaining the durability and quality of your spur point bit for a long time.
