Square piano

The definition of the square piano is a piano consisting of horizontal strings which are set diagonally across the rectangular case that are placed above the hammers and the key board is set corresponding to it. This is made and improved by Petzold and Babcock in 1890 in United States. First it was built by Adam Beyer in 1788 a five octave square piano. The square pianos also said to appear in London in 1766. Consequently a handsome set of square piano was made by master man with satin wood cross banding with a musical shelf. Thus the introduction of the square piano went abreast with the ubiquity and popularity.

Working

The introduction of the square piano is still in confusion with the handful of makers. As in 1767 the Zumpe made it and then it was said that it was first introduced by the Sebastien Erard in France and it also became popular in England. This works the same way as the modern piano. When the keys are pressed then the ends of the key strike with the strings and thus produces a musical note and the flow continues with the production of the fine tuning and rhythm. This is a simple table like surface and except the outer cover they have all the parts corresponding to the horizontal piano. This piano was improved by Sebastien Erard as he dedicated his life for the enhancement of the piano. The square piano gained a lot of importance in 19th century. It resembles with the functioning of the grand pianos but only the outer surface is different from the grand piano. In 1800 these square pianos use to have only one pedal and this pedal is placed in the left food and not the right foot. The French pianos came with four pedals. And then gradually they were increased to five pedals. Thus it made a great contribution in the field of pianos.

The square pianos are the simplest model and the popular model among all the pianos. These pianos were made last in 1865 in France and England. But gradually it lost its importance and it was known to be the old fashioned model. Now with the introduction of the digital model it is out of the scene.
