Wood deck painting
Wood decks:
Nowadays wood decks have become an important part of residential construction. They add versatile living space to a home and require minimum maintenance with less usage of space. Due to this they have become very popular. Wood decks however are affected by high stress and also extreme weather conditions thus causing cracks in the wood, mildew increasing the risk of decay and insect attack. To avoid this the lumber used is pressure treated with a preservative or a naturally durable wood such as redwood or western redcedar is used. Thus applying an additional finish to wood decks such as using a proper suitable paint will minimize the risk of cracking, raised grain and mildew growth of the wood.
Wood deck painting:
For long life of the wood decks penetrating finishes are applied on wood decks that include water-repellent preservatives, colored water repellent preservatives and semi-transparent stains. This lets you add some color to the wood without hiding its grain or texture. An opaque deck stain can be used to avoid viewing of wood grains. These products can be oil based or latex and more like paints in their pigmentation, they last longer than a semi transparent stain. If you do not want to show the grain or texture of the wood then a porch and deck paint or enamel can be the best way to go. This lasts longer than any other stain however you may need to use a primer for best results. There are plenty of options to paint your deck. You can ask any paint professional about the coat that best suits your wood deck.
Application of paint to wood decks:
A proper coating of paint or any enamel should be applied in order to avoid problems of wood. This is very important that affects the performance of coatings for pressure treated woods or any wood surface. Putting too much of these coatings on the wood leads to a buildup of material thereby forming a film which can ultimately peel or crack. For water repellant products, over-application of coats can result in a surface, which is overly waxy or sticky, since the coating build-up interacts with them to dry properly. Before applying any paint you make sure the surfaces are dry, clean and free of mildew. There are different ways to apply paint either by brush, spray roller or a pad that can be used to apply different types of paints.
